Music tempts procrastination

I was obsessed with The Phantom of the Opera and Neopets in 2000, so whenever I listen to the same music my mind wanders off to playing the Year 2000 version of Pterattack. And it makes me uneasy doing whatever I was doing.
Recently, I've been listening to too much of the Step Up soundtracks while drawing stuff on Photoshop so... now I'm playing the tracks, it makes me uneasy again. I'm so tempted to ditch Statistics past papers for more doodling.
I know, I could just turn my music off. But my sister's lost her headphones (no idea how she managed to lose such a big fat thing) so she plays her music straight from her computer and it distracts me even more. I'm so tempted to procrastinate! But I also need to blame STATS 108 for having mightily boring and repetitive past papers questions.
So do particular albums or songs remind you of particular actions or moods at particular moments in time?
I wonder why I can't listen to the music while I'm studying and by playing the music in my head during the exams recall what exactly I studied. I wonder why the human mind loads so much useless crap but fails to replace these junk with more exam-related constructive content.
One thing I can do after reading my exam notes a couple of times though, is being able to flip through the written pages in my mind during the exams, find the position of the related content on the page, zoom in, and see the answer. Unfortunately, I don't often read my exam notes even a couple of times to be able to activate such a function. Now how cool would it be if I could convert all my notes into... lyrics!

I wrote a blog a few days ago about how music helps trigger memories of friends based on experiences we had while the song was playing. So, there are many songs that were played while we were doing dishes that just trigger memories of us dancing around, singing into spoons, breaking dishes, and being whipped with wet towels by the boys.
I think it's great. One of my friends pointed out that she has a song she associates with each person she interacts with most. I realized that I sort of have the same thing, and that it's really great to just be listening to music and have a song come up and remind you how much you love someone. -

When I had to cram for a month for my end of high school exams, I listened to my Aqua album on loop. For some reason, that album was really condusive to studying for me. Whenever, I hear Aqua music now, I remember the days when I used to work really hard.

Hmm...any and all music. Though I do remember that in high school I was listening to New Kids on the Block a lot so I imagine that if I listened to them I would remember all the homework & studying.

Music always reminds me on things. That's why I don't like to listen to it. I just don't like all that memories. Period.
There is a song in our language which describes our nation's history and when I was studying about our history for some kind of History competition I remembered a lot of things by listening to it. Otherwise, I think it's very important what type of person you are: if you remember thing when you see it, then reading when studying probably makes more sense to you. Otherwise, I like to disccuss the subject with members of my family. Talking helps me remember.

I listen to the Fratellis whenever I need motivation. I find their songs really cheery and happy which kinds of motivates me to study?
Funny thing is, I cannot study without music. I just have to have music, even if it's MCR or a screamo band on the radio screaming. I can't sleep without the radio too.
Ah, music-dependency

I've never had a problem with listening to music while studying. For me it actually helps with the creative process. This could also have something to do with the fact that I'm a graphic design major and don't have to deal with such subjects as Statistics and English papers anymore. My favorite music to listen to while doing projects is New Wave.

"So do particular albums or songs remind you of particular actions or moods at particular moments in time?"
Yes, it's very common for me, especially because I am very good at remembering melodies (that and people's faces). Listening to certain songs also reminds me of certain people. -

There are alot of songs that remind me of people and past events. I can't study or read either with music on. It has to be completely silent.
When I was a freshman in college, I learned a method to studying for exams and such. I read my notes everyday before and after classes, over and over again. It made it a lot easier to study when the time came. I was kind of weird. I actually questioned myself on the notes that I read. Reading them over and over again stimulated my mind and caused me to think further than what I was reading, which caused me to understand what I was reading more. It's kind of strange but it makes a lot of sense to me. It also proved to be a very useful tactic. -

I think silence is the best for me, but I still put music on. It prevents me from concentrating, my mind always wonders off to some other place (:

@Shannon: That sounds like a great method. I'll need to try it out. Thanks.

I've actually converted study notes into a little song to help remember them
It works like a charm! You just have to sing it a few times before to get it stuck in your head. -

When I listen to Jojo or Jesse McCartney I'm reminded of my awesome friends, lol.
I know, my mind stores all these useless stuff instead of academical stuff. Sheesh. >_> But anyways, try to focus on your studies and ignore the music from your sister's computer. Maybe try to buy those ear plugs or something. Good luck!

I can't study while listening to music at all, there can't be any noise or sound or I go nuts and throw my books out the window. Of course, studying is boring that way, so I don't study much

Anyway I get the same when I listen to my old Matchbox 20 albums, I used to listen to them while Neopetting as well. I'm off Neopets now, but always get the urge to when I put those cds on. -

I can't listen to music while studying; it just distracts me. My brother is kind of like your sister though, he plays his music so loud, that I can hear it from my room so that distracts me. It's kind of hard to concentrate on school work when you all of a sudden hear rap music with obscene words. His music vibrates the floor too. It's annoying.

If I'm seriously studying and trying to memorize things, I cannot listen to music. It's too distracting but, if I'm just reading or doing math - I can enjoy a song. I associate different songs with different periods of my life. If I listen to a song that I loved five years ago, I'll get nostalgic.
Sometimes (only sometimes, mind you!) my mind works well and I'm able to memorize passages from my notes after reading them carefully once or twice. But what I hate the most is sitting for an exam and knowing that an answer is right after a certain something on a certain page of my notes and not being able to recall it. It's so frustrating. -

Hello there! You have a nice layout here. ^_^ Mind to exchange links?

Oh yes... I read a book called Sybill by Flora Rheta Schreiber ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sybil_(book) ), and while I was reading it I was listening to ATC (had just bought the album). Now whenever I listen to ATC's "Why", I get the mental image of a woman with multiple personalities

heh procrastination... I used to do that a lot in uni. Sometimes to the point of not even doing the assignments.
Those were the days... Don't do that by the way ;) -

I don't know, but as long as I have music, I have the power to work lol. But I use music as an excuse to procrastinate to
I only can't sleep without music lol, and I sleep with bubblegum music lol -

Wow. My boyfriend studies with his music blaring yet still passes everything. Maybe you need some of his... genes.

Alicia Keys - Songs in A Minor is what I used to listen to when I was writing fanfiction back when I was little.
MCR - Welcome To The Black Parade is what I tend to listen to while I'm designing layouts.
