Oh hail to the start of uni

It was the first day of uni for 2008 on 3 March. I can't believe just how excited the first-years are. During the second half of the year last year, the whole campus would be deserted before 8am. Well, yesterday was the first time I have ever seen so many students on campus at 7.30am.
Well, good on them freshmen. I've been hit with bloody thick coursebooks double the size of last year's plus a deadly uncomfortable cold. Even on this day-off when I could rest to heal my cold I'm forced to sit here and digest a crazy load of law readings. Yesterday during break, my first-year friends decided to sit down at a table and study together excitedly. (Just wait till they get their first wave of assignments and tests next month they'd be crying "Fuck law readings".) In contrast, I dozed off during my first public and criminal law lectures. I only used to do that during stats and maths lectures.
How do you feel towards the start of a new school year? I used to be excited at the start of each high school year because I'd feel like I'm moving up the school hierarchy, and indeed we did get to tell off the people below us. But now it's like... it's like... daunting... just looking at the course content ahead of me...
Sooner or later I'd make the local headlines by jumping off a cliff with a bunch of textbooks and coursebooks.

I get pretty excited with every new year because by then, I'm somewhat tired of summer vacation and I sort of like school! But it seems every year, I'm less excited than the one before...

It was the first day of uni for 2008 on 3 March.
For Auckland uni.
The rest of us went back on the 25th of February! -

I started Uni with a cold too. Pretty horrible stuff, had to miss a tutorial today because of sickness.
I'm actually quite looking forward to this year. I've already done all the requisite readings for my subjects this year, and listened to all the lectures, which is a really good start for me. Probably because this year, I picked the subjects that I'm really interested in, as opposed to subjects that I hate but which I thought were "practical".
My uni went back on the 25th as well, but other unis here also started on the 3rd. Weird. -

I would get excited the night before when I was in college, but it faded real fast the next morning. For me it was the horrible part of waking up early in the morning.
You will do fine, Rilla. Trust me. You have the perfect attitude for it. Remember what I said about what you will get to do after you are finished. -

A new year in high school wasn't very exciting for me except for the new stationery buying phase. Honestly, university has been a lot more exciting in all aspects, including new years. It's true that abut three times per semester jumping off a cliff sounds like a viable option, but it's good overall

I mostly enjoy starting school because it's something to do! Though I work more often during my days off, I get so bored when I'm not in school. I suppose it's because I need the mental stimulation to stay awake!

In high school and before that, I looked to the beginning of each school year with dread. We always had summer assignments, which I hated, and the last days of my summer were always devoted to finishing a bunch of school work.
In uni., I can't say that I was "excited" to start classes, but my attitude was much more positive than it'd been before. I looked forward to everything then... and worked on finding classes I liked. -

Well, truth to be told, we started uni around the 8th of January. I was then traveling in South America so I came back a month delayed/behind. I haven't really started. I don't go to lectures nor I have begun to read. I'm only working/procrastinating with my two research projects. I have such a bad conscience because of this yet I can't make myself study this time. I wish wolves would come and eat me!
Good luck to you though

I don't feel anything when entering a new semester ;)
Mine starts March 17th - I'm actually not looking forward to it because it will be busy as hell - last semester. -

I use to be excited whenever I start school because face it.. it's boring if you have nothing to do (and no job).. but once school settles in, THEN it becomes hell and you find yourself wishing you could lie around at home and be bored all day again.

I'm always excited and nervous everytime I move up a grade. That's the case this year since I'm going to start High School. I think it's just when someone is younger they can't wait to grow up, and when that finally happens they wish they were young again.
-

Oh that reminds me of my own uni years. I'd start out the semester with fresh forces, decided to do better than the previous semester... only to be a royal slacker 2 weeks later. Well... I did like some courses, so with those I was slightly less slacker-ish.

When I was younger (think elementary/middle school) I was usually excited to start a new school year, but now starting a new school year just means more work. And getting older, lol. I'll probably be excited when I start college though, because it'll be a new and exciting experience.

I liked the start of school days, but I always dreaded the end of holidays too. So I'm half-half. My housemate takes Law too, 2nd year now, and she's got so very many books - I'm freaked out.
-

I used to get excited about the start of a new school year, but nowadays, not so much. I study at home and even if I'd have a break I'd still play with PHP, so whether I'm actually making school assignments or not, makes no difference to me

-

I get nervous about what my new teachers will be like, but like you said, it's good to know that you're moving up xD

You, Belinda and I should have a party - I started uni on the 25th with a cold. And had a cold at the beginning of the week that just passed, too. W00t.
I'm already settled into uni. Well, insofar as routine, goes - it scares me that I've adapted so quickly to having to study so much more than last year, but it's still a little draining. That said, I also hate two of my four units for this semester. Oh joy of joys! My Psych textbook also weighs 1/10th of my own body weight. How fun is that?
Hope uni settles down a little for you soon! -

I agree with you. When I was a seventh grader, I came to school early so I could chitchat with my friends about their new classes, etcetera. This year, I just came to school like it was any other day. I still kind-of look forward to each new school year because of the new things that you'll learn, and the new 'powers' that you have. I mean, I can look at a seventh grader, and they'll immediately scurry away — awesome, right?
Maybe to get you more inspired about your new year at the university, why not look for something that you couldn't have done as a first-year?
I'm especially looking forward to next year! I mean... high school girls! Need I say anymore?
-

I would love the beginning of the term because the coursework would start off pretty easy. Good luck with your new classes

WOOHOO! Yah for college (: I love the beginning to every school year, it's always fresh and exciting (:

In high school I use to get super excited at the start of each new school year because that meant one step closer to freedom and moving out of my parent's house. In college, however, a new school was just that, a new school year.
