Not-so-recommended Firefox extensions

Most of you would've seen blog recommendations of Firefox extensions anywhere and everywhere. And from anywhere and everywhere you would've heard of the all-time-famous Adblock Plus, Web Developer, FireFTP and so on; so there's no need for me to redundantly talk about them again. In fact, most of the "famous" ones which I use can be found on my list from last year. And funnily enough, what I said from last year is true now:
If I haven't had what I would call a decent level of self-control, this list would be doubled the length.
From last year's 21 extensions, I now have exactly 41 dammit.
So this year I'm presenting a handful of extensions I love which (1) aren't on my list from last year and (2) I don't see in blog recommendations anywhere and everywhere. In alphabetical order:
- Codetch: I only installed this morning so I haven't had the chance to test it out. But it's a code editor with functions including validation, FTP, JavaScript debugging and what-not. It looks promising.
- FireGestures: having had Opera as my default browser for over a year before, mouse gestures has become second nature to me while browsing.
- FireShot: the most advanced screenshot-taking extension I've come across. Allows screenshots of selected areas, annotations and drawings. No less than "godly".
- Full Fullscreen: clicking F11 used to keep the toolbar and tabs bar (I think). But now you get to use the entire screen. Used especially when taking full screenshots.
- Google Notebook: Firefox extension for Google Notebook. I use it to save code snippets or random notes.
- GooglePreview: adds thumbnails to Google and Yahoo search results. Useful to see if the websites look legitimate enough. You shouldn't judge a book by its cover but hey, whatever.
- Picnik: easy for importing images into Picnik for quick editing. I really don't like opening Photoshop just to resize or crop an image.
- Smart Bookmarks Bar: I have so many bookmarks in my bookmarks toolbar they just don't fit in the "default way". So I display them as favicons with title appearing on-hover. I find it easier to recognise sites by their favicons and it looks prettier that way too!
- Undo Closed Tabs Button: I just can't stop clicking this button.

All the above are compatible with Firefox 3. Just shoot me if you have heard of all of them before from other people's blogs because it would mean I have failed my purpose of introducing not-so-recommended extensions.
And if you haven't already, check out Appassionato's Winter Competition 2008!

I felt the same way about my blog post title after posting it. But it was err... too late.
-

I thought the same about the title too haha.
Jeeez... lol@your firefox browser, it's so full! I haven't heard of any of them, so well done on your purpose =P
I only use two plugins... meek compared to your 41 lol. Download Helper to get stuff off youtube and a translation one.
I always close my tabs accidently too! It's frustrating to go through history and find it again. -

Yeah, I though the exact same thing about the title.
I only use a few FF extensions (Adblock Plus, Hide Unvisited, Screengrab, Stumbleupon, Stylish) because I don't like cluttering up my Firefox with things I don't really need or want. I think you've fulfilled your purpose in writing this, though, because I haven't heard of most of those and I just might have to check them out! -

I rather like the idea of the last one, because I have this insane urge to just click on the little X whenever there are too many of them... and then I realize that I closed what I needed.
The rest, I'm happy with screengrab and the js errors... well I only need that at work and I love alerts to pieces
-

Oh wow, lots of extensions!
Once I downloaded a bunch and ended up getting rid of them most, because I don't like the "cluttered" look of the browser when so many extensions are installed. Some of them are just too useful to let go, so most of the time I stick to what I "need" - the web developer bar, fire ftp, screengrab, a calculator, stumbleupon, and I think that's it XD
I'll check out those you listed up there anyway, who know if I'll add one of 'em to my list of essential extensions
-

I like the sound of Fireshot, thanks for the list, I think I'll go check them out!

-

wow u firefox plugin whore...i only have a few essential addons..in fact i only have 6! hmnn maybe i should spend more time customizing my browser

-

CHERYL I FOUND A PIGGY THAT LOOKS LIKE DULU
stuffed plushie of course but fat and huggable (Cindy and Geoff agree btw).
And i think I might be getting a new domain but will keep you updated....
btw you got some nice pics of you on facebook like super sexy hot hot hot
(/flirt)
J/K.
will spam comments more later and if you delete i will </3 you
-

How dare you say "J/K" after calling me "super sexy hot hot hot"?
-

Instead of the last one you can use a keyboard shortcut: ctrl+shift+t
I use it all the time.
Just a few days I went through my add-ons and forced myself to remove those I don't use at least weekly. Right now I have 11 and trying to keep it that way. -

My goodness, your Firefox is loaded! Does it run slowly?
I've only heard of two (Notebook & Undo Closed Tabs) so your goal was accomplished there. I think I'll stick to my clean 4-extension Firefox, though.
What skin are you running on Windows itself (if you are)? It looks pretty nice.
-

You have...a whole lot of extensions! I'm considering getting the undo-close-button one (:
-

TWD: Yes I think it may be the reason my FF crashes all the time.
And I'm using a Windows XP visual style called Lite XP. The dark version (Nite XP) looks pretty cool too. -

I absolutely ADORE firegestures! I think you introduced them to me on Plurk, and I've been addicted ever since. I get upset when I have to use IE and I can't do my little gestures

-

muahah im gonna try it out and have a firefox exactly like urs

-

I don't know whether to feel incredibly smug or out of date since my firefox remains devoid of anything except for the fireftp. haha, at least, I would NEVER allow my browser to become anything like yours (smirks)
handy post, however. I'll check up Picnik! -

what... the... hell... ... how do you even know where everything is with such a cluttered firefox? XD
I like things simple and clean
so yeah... my firefox is almost (note: ALMOST) naked =P -

FireShot is kind of like ScreenGrabber?
Hm. I think I might go install FF3 now.
I've been waiting until there's been a screenshot extension. ;p -

Wow that's a handful of really useful Firefox plugins! I'm currently using IE Tabs and ReloadEvery only... IE tabs isn't perfect, but heck at least it saves me time to launch IE7. I find Mouse Gestures and Fireshot very useful, not to mention Google Notebooks! I'll be installing them in a jiffy... thanks for the links!
p/s: Forgive me Rilla, but I couldn't stop admiring your mafia-looking face in gravatars!
-

Jenny: I used Screengrab last year. But FireShot is much more advanced and powerful (imo)!
Teddy: Go on admiring.
Heather'll beat yo up! -

By the way, my Firefox actually only looks so crowded because of the annotations. It still looks quite clean on a blank page! O.o
-

cool. i will have to check out a few things on that list. my favorite is stumbleupon.
-

I know what you mean about Opera, it's my main browser right now.

If you ctrl+shift+T it's the same thing as undo-ing your last closed tab. With all those plug-ins though, I just might have to switch back to FireFox! -

WORDPRESS TOO HARD LA.
T_T and a lot of the skins so uglyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
there's not one thats like 100% greenified aka tina-compatible
so no comments ^___________^ -

I thought FireGestures has the Undo Close Tab function why use it again?
-

Zorji: Because it says no button... x_x

-

ahh.. da niang but that button doesnt fit most theme

When I saw the title for this post, I thought it was going to be a list of Firefox extensions that suck and shouldn't be recommended to use xP

Great list. Most people seem to list the same ones as everyone else, but I haven't seen these ones yet. I love the Smart Bookmarks Bar so thanks for recommending it
