Waiting for a break that never comes

Four years in uni should contain four Winter breaks and four Summer breaks. Should. It’s not like I’m a nerd that studies 24/7, but it just so happens that I never allowed myself to have a real holiday over the past three and a half years.

  1. 2007 Winter break: tried to study ahead for the next semester in order to keep up good grades to get into Law school.
  2. 2007 Summer break: enrolled in a Maths paper for fun and work.
  3. 2008 Winter break: essays and tests for double semester Law papers and work.
  4. 2008 Summer break: enrolled in a Finance paper, a necessary prerequisite and work.
  5. 2009 Winter break: essays and tests for double semester Law papers and work. Again.
  6. 2009 Summer break: enrolled in Company Liquidations paper because it’s one of my favourite subjects and work.
  7. 2010 Winter break: essays and tests for double semester Law papers and work !@£$% and AMUNC event in Sydney.1
  8. 2010 Summer break: I initially promised myself I will enjoy this break with no study at all. But I’ve already made the grave decision to enrol in whichever paper that I have ever the slightest bit of interest in.

Who said uni was freer than school? I can’t stop the voluntary self torture, and hence I probably can’t complain. 3 Waiting for a break that never comes I definitely need a proper break for revitalisation but alas! I expect 2011 to be quite the same.

  1. Not really a holiday! []

The only real break I’ve had recently is the summer after I got into medical school, and I’m currently doing research during what will be the last summer vacation of my life. Clearly, breaks are just so that we can pad our resumes.

Yeah, I never had a break while I was in university. Especially in my last two years, when I would take summer classes. Oh my god, those were the worst! I’d literally have no life during the summer. It would to straight to school, then straight to work, then straight home to study and work on papers and research. Ugh. I guess that’s why I’m not too eager to return, though I know I will eventually to get my Masters.

Careful not to burn yourself out doll. At least you have the drive to continue. That’s awesome.

Wow, that sounds intense o_o Don’t stress yourself out too much though! Sometimes I wish I could study a little bit over summer/winter break, so I’m not totally obscene when I go back to school, lol.

Wow, you’re actually able to recall what you did for all those breaks? I guess it’s because you managed to accomplish a lot… unlike me. D:

Sheesh, that’s an intense list of not-really-holidays. Not that it’s anywhere close in comparison, but this semester break was the first holiday I’ve had in 3-4 years that I haven’t had a job and/or something else that I had to tend to. Unemployment sucks for the pocket, but it’s great going out knowing I don’t have to wake up in x amount of hours to stand for x amount of hours :/

But, um… when are you ever going to get a holiday? I hear that people who do law degrees only ever have a proper holiday during the summer after the graduate – because obviously after that you’ll be climbing that ladder…

Meh… I made that mistake… I’m almost done with Summer classes while everyone here is at the beach and partying. ;-; No breaks for me…
